Being in the car rental business for eight years, you learn a thing or two about how to manage a growing fleet and keep a finger on the pulse of an industry growing at the rate of technology. Southern California's Rent4Less domain continues to expand because of its leadership's ability to carefully evaluate its needs and take a methodical approach to expansion - one that includes staying in step with the stride of online reservations and rate management.

Up until 2003, everything was done manually at Rent4Less. A quick view of the lot at a single, local location was all the inventory analysis they needed. Very soon, however, the six people covering seven locations found it more difficult to keep track of more than 500 vehicles manually. Although Rent 4less never lost a car, they lost plenty of time and energy trying to manage such a large fleet without automation. Still it was not an impossible task with the service area covering a radius of about 35 miles. But as the company grew to a 120 mile radius, it became more important to automate in order to track vehicles and maintain their high standard for customer service.

“For us as an independent operation, the TSD Rental Management Software application and reservation interface was a good start,” said Satish Muddaiah, IT Manager for Rent4Less. “We had RezCentral from day one to help us manage our rates, but there were reports specific to our operation that we needed. TSD was able to deliver a more robust application according to our specific needs.”

Rent4Less now employs more than 250 people in 29 locations across Southern California - all working from the same dynamic database to manage a fleet that contains 2,700 vehicles and growing. An eclectic vehicle selection is able to meet the needs of all kinds of rental markets. “Good customer service has always been a priority for us. No matter how big we get, we think everyone should be able to enjoy a late model vehicle at an affordable price,” commented Muddaiah. Rent4Less has luxury cars, high-end sport utility vehicles, environmentally-friendly hybrids and even Motor homes in several sizes for rent.

Rent4Less has enjoyed a strong web presence for several years and has recently starting taking full advantage of the capabilities of taking reservations online. The features found in RezCentral facilitate the process of setting and changing rates and taking online reservations, while EdiCar allows Rent4Less to expand upon their insurance replacement opportunities.
